Restoring Grandpa’s Old ’48 Harley

The emails and messages just keep coming in, THANKS! I know it has been a while since an update so I have added some info for you. I will be done with my Graduate degree in May, so the updates (working on the bike) should be much more frequent after that.

The creation of this site was to record and document the history and restoration process on my Grandfather’s 1948 Harley-Davidson Panhead. It has also become my aspiration to proved additional information and restoration resources that may assist others working on similar vintage projects.

The majority of information found here will be specific to the restoration work done on Grandpa’s bike. Updates of the restoration can be found on the Restoration Blog. Update frequency will depend on the amount of time I find to work on the project. Working full time and taking two graduate classes a semester consumes much of my time.

For those who would rather skip the reading and just see the progress of the restoration, check out the Photos page. The albums posted give a good pictorial timeline of the bikes condition and restoration progress.

Rather you are restoring a vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a fellow enthusiast, friends of Grandpa or one of the family, as you read the stories and details of this project, may part of the Harley-Davidson experience go with you in your travels.

Be safe, and enjoy the ride!
